Paleo Blood Orange Margarita and Tequila 101
Hey guys, what did you do this week?
Bribe friends to come over to your house and drink tequila so you're not drinking alone while getting mad at the "are you still watching banner?" that comes up on Netflix after 5 nonstop episodes of The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt?
Yeah, me neither.
Great. Well, now that we've got that out of the way, I'm ready to share something with you. I considered not sharing it because I'm happy to keep this one all for myself, but I am a good, nice person. Most of the time. SO I am sharing this recipe with you.
AND this marks the second Cinco de Mayo installation with Dani from Care to Pair. To catch you up, Dani and I are working on some Cinco de Mayo recipes and drink pairings so by the time Cinco do Mayo rolls around, you will be not only prepared, but well versed in in how any why certain drinks pair with South of Vanilla paleo recipes. (If you didn't check out our first collaboration, definitely go and check it out here.)
Anyway....Paleo Blood Orange Margaritas. YES. Its a thing. At least, now it is.
I know what you're thinking, and no. My citrus obsession has not slowed down yet. In fact, I've been replying upon my Sam's Club membership to buy oranges and such in bulk so I don't break the bank. Oh, and I couldn't find blood oranges anywhere for awhile so I ended up ordering 10 pounds over the phone from an orchard in California. No, this is not a joke. But this margarita did come out of it. Yep. #bloodorangeeverything
Now, Michelle Walker, an amazing blogger from Against All Grain, first came out with the original Paleo Margarita recipe. How do I know this? Because they day she posted the recipe, 15 of my closest friends/family/neighbors/acquaintances texted, emailed, facebooked, and pinned the recipe to me. Maybe I should take this as a sign? Naaaahhh.
I owe inspiration to Michelle for giving me the base to this recipe, as well as providing the recipe for honey syrup for cocktails instead of simple syrup with white refined sugar. (Brilliant!) Please go check her out. She has awesome recipes, fantastic cookbooks, but seems like an all around really nice person. I want to be her friend. But she doesn't even know I exist. Ssstallkkeeerr.
Before I hear from you guys, no alcohol isn't paleo. Its not, I know. But we all still have to live a little. Pllllus, did you know that tequila is the only form of alcohol that isn't a depressant? Its a stimulant. Explains a lot about college, doesn't it? (I also heard this on Grey's Anatomy, so you might want to double-check that fact.)
Also, Dani has been nice enough to go through different tequilas for us. If you want a run-down on everything tequila related, you need to go check out that info ASAP here. She is so smart.
I don't know much about alcohol, and I definitely don't pretend to. Like most people, I depend on blogs for a ton of information from anything from recipes to gardening to DIY candle making. No, really. One of these days, I'm going to make my own organic candles. Just you wait and see.
For anything alcohol related, I typically turn to Dani. She's so incredibly knowledgeable about the subject. I mean, there was one time she was trying to explain this wine to me and I totally didn't get it. Then, she said: "ok, its bright and fruity- like bubblegum!". And from that moment on I totally understood, and I text her straightaway when I have some super. important. question. About wine. Or beer. Or gin. Or in this case, Tequila.
