Sunday Snaps 10/25/15

Um, hi. My name is Kristina, and I run this blog South of Vanilla. I am reintroducing myself because although the blog has been consistently posting recipes, giveaways, and collaborations, I haven’t written a Sunday Snaps since July. July.

Life has been crazy hectic, which truly is an understatement. I have posted a couple life update posts here and here, but for the most part, I’ve been pretty silent. Intuitively I knew that fall this year would be incredibly busy, so before we left New Mexico, I worked very diligently on creating, photographing, and shooting recipes in advance so South of Vanilla could run without minimal work on my end. I bet you didn’t even notice I was gone! I guess that’s a good thing. I suppose.

In summary, in the past 10 weeks, we packed up our house, put almost all of our possessions in storage, worked to rent our house, drove across the country (twice), moved into a short-term lease, and have traveled to the east coast and Midwest for weddings.

For work, I started a short-term SLP position, while applying for new positions knowing that this contract expires after 13 weeks. I also have been doing a lot of networking for the blog world, SLP world, and the nutrition world.

The most exciting news in all of this (Saving the best update for last) is that I also incorporated South of Vanilla, and started the trademark process. South of Vanilla is now a small business, and I cannot believe it. Pinch me. I am over the moon, and still in shock that this little food blog, which I started on a whim, with my iPhone 4 camera, has turned in a legitimate business.

Despite all of this, life has been surprisingly harmonious, albeit busy since making the decision to leave New Mexico, which supports my life theory that when you are on the right path, things tend to fall into place easily.

Currently, we are living in Alexandria, in northern Virginia, just outside of D.C. When we first moved, we had our heart on returning to the city, but it made more sense to live here because of the cost, fluid leasing arrangements, and the commute to work; in retrospect, this decision one probably one of the best we’ve made. Alexandria is an old colonial city full of southern, mid-Atlantic charm, and it has been so magical in fall. It has also given me some upcoming opportunities, which I didn’t even see coming, that I can’t share just yet, but I am very excited about.

Being back on the East Coast for fall has been making me ants-in-my-pants excited every day (ummm hello, I am back to having seasons again) because in my opinion, fall has the best clothes and the best flavors and the best weather.

The saddest cake we ever did see.

However, in other news, I somehow neglected to pack any long sleeve shirts, sweaters, coats, jackets, or scarves when I left. And now, my warm things are 2,000 miles away in a storage facility while the mornings and evenings have started to drop consistently into the 40s. So I guess I will just have to buy some more? Totally ok with that. I will just keep buying more from Stitchfix, and now my latest workout clothes obsession, Fabletics. I am a sucker for subscription box anything, apparently.

CK and I have been on a fitness kick since the end of the summer, and we have been doing a ton of…..yoga! I have been doing yoga for 15 years now, longer than I think I’ve done anything, and after over 3 years of dating, I finally got CK to come with me. Persistence. We have been trying out a ton of studios, and so far we (I) like Studio 532CorePower Yoga, and Zweet Sport. Core Power Yoga is a chain, so there could be one near you, and their Yoga Sculpt class is killer. In a good way.

Although I obviously won’t be posting more pictures of southwestern sunsets (I know, sad), I will be posting pictures of D.C. and Virginia and Maryland. We also recently just went to a wedding in Pittsburgh, which was gorgeous, and we had so much fun exploring rural western Pennsylvania and Pittsburgh.

Happy Sunday!

xoxo,
