I know. I know what you’re thinking. I’ve abandoned you. Ugh.
But no, I am still very well, just thinking about updating South of Vanilla from afar without actually sitting down to do so. Lame. (Although, I constantly update my Instagram. All over that one.)
It has been over 2 months since I posted my last Sunday Snaps, which is so unlike me. I have posted a handful of recipes in my absence, but not nearly as many as I normally do. I did post my yearly Faileos post, which always goes over well. Mostly because I can bring awareness to what goes on behind the scenes behind pretty much everyone’s Instagrams.
I am not one to make excuses, but let me just briefly summarize what has been going on the past 2 months, so there’s a bit of context:
Our engagement (eeeek!!), wedding planning, moved into a permanent place (finally!), the holidays happened, we had visitors over the holidays, both of us started new jobs, between the two of us, we traveled to Chicago, South Carolina, Minneapolis, Philladelphia, and Texas, , I was accepted into a nutritional program (More on that later), and I started the intensive process of becoming a certified Pure Barre teacher.
Soooooooo, much to my dismay, I haven’t been lounging around in my yoga pants Netflix binging, but rather running around (Literally, running around the country) trying to manage the 10,000 balls I have in the air right now; in the interest of sleeping, I scaled back on South of Vanilla for a bit.
Things are kind of starting to calm down, although right now I am writing this post because I have been forced inside and work has been called off due to the megastorm coming to DC. I wasn’t taking 2 feet of snow seriously (Chicago girl, born and raised), until:
1. CK and I went to the grocery store and Target, and the shelves were literally cleared out.
2. The gas stations started running out of gas.
3. 1 inch of snow fell on Wednesday, totally shutting down the city, causing something like 400 accidents within 4 hours, and we had a delayed start at work because of the travel conditions.
After watching the weather channel incessantly, and learning some fun weather-related facts about DC (Like Dulles has a heated runway. So cool!), we are now taking this storm seriously. In the words of one of my younger kiddos at work: “its illegal to go outside!”
Maybe not quite illegal, but the media has definitely put the entire region into a frozen-pizza-buying-panic. Currently, its snowed a little under 2 feet, and the wind is so intense its hard to see. According to the news, the worst is yet to come, so I’ll let you know how it goes, friends. The whole city may get shut down for even longer than anticipated.
The biggest update I have is that we found a wedding venue and have a wedding date! We will be getting married at the end of August…..like the end of August this year in Chicago! So crazy! And no, before anyone else asks, I am not pregnant. We are just super excited to get married, and didn’t want to have an engagement over a year. (Our logic is that more engagement time= more drama.) So this summer it is, and as excited as we are, we (ahem, I) have since realized that planning a wedding in about 9 months is totally do-able, but means that I really need to be very organized. I already have a few of the bigger things checked off my list, and I am totally loving wedding planning.
Anyone have any tips for wedding tips for Chicago? Anyone recommend any good vendors? I am all ears!
And before I leave you, here are some snaps from life lately!
Have a great and safe Sunday!
